The royal wedding in the summer had a massive impact on weddings. Everyone loves a good wedding and a royal one contains extra magic. Months on, we’re still fascinated by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and enjoy reminiscing about the day, all those little details that made it such an amazing event.

The main talking point for me always has been Meghan’s choice of dress. It was simple, elegant, the absence of sparkle highlighted her jewellery. Designed by the artistic director of Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller, it was a bold dress in its simplicity with an A-line silhouette and three-quarter-length sleeves.

We have some great designers in the UK and if this pure style of dress, free of frills and embellishment, appeals to you then there is a dress for you.

Suzanne Neville

All Suzanne Neville’s dresses are British made and adhering to traditional origins the dresses are handmade using contemporary couture techniques.

Caroline Catigliano

Caroline Castigliano has been at the forefront of British bridal design for 27 years. All her dresses are handmade in the UK and her signature style is a silhouette; glamorous and feminine.

Ellis Bridals

Ellis Bridals was established in London in 1912. Ada Ellis, the brand’s creator, designed dresses for early 20th Century aristocracy in London. The brand was and still is a family affair, and with over 100 years pedigree behind each dress, you’re buying a piece of history too.

Ronald Joyce

Ronald Joyce was founded in London in the 1950’s as a Bridal and Evening Wear Design House. It’s now one of the best know companies in the business. They also create fantastic mother of the bride dresses with the Italian designer Beni Infantino, so all the important ladies can wear this unique blend of classic design and modern innovations.

Jenny Packham

For the same smooth outline but minimal embellishment, this design from Jenny Packham has texture and a clean outline. Launched in 1988, Jenny Packham is one of the UK’s most successful independent fashion brands favoured by some of the strongest women in our generation including the Duchess of Cambridge and Angelina Jolie.

This is just a small sample of the great British designers you can choose from for your wedding dress. I haven’t mentioned Alice Temperley MBE of Temperley London or Sassi Holford. With so many great designers in the UK, we British brides are really spoilt for choice.
